Erik Heine, professor of music theory at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»â€™s Wanda L. Bass School of Music, will participate in a fundraising ultramarathon on Oct. 22 to create a new scholarship for music majors. The 12-hour run on a one-mile loop will take place at the Bluff Creek Park at Meridian and Hefner in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³». The Deb Heine Endowed Scholarship Endurance Challenge, is named in honor of the support and encouragement Heine received from his mother during a pivotal time in his college career.
I want to do something that will have a positive lasting effect on the university. I don't have the financial means to create this scholarship on my own, but I have a body that is still willing to do something that will hopefully be awe-inspiring, and will encourage alumni and friends of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» to support me in this challenge.
The scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student who is a music major (BA, BM, or BME), has completed at least five semesters in residence at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³», and has at least one semester remaining. The scholarship will assist in defraying the costs of tuition and/or fees for the student, and is intended to serve as encouragement for maintaining a high level of academic achievement in addition to strong performance skills.
